Specific things can be done to keep your motor running strong at little to no cost.

Summary Picture

When you see dirt built up like this LEAVE IT THERE!!!
Disturbing it an any way usually pushes dirt into the bearing so until you are ready to replace bearings I suggest that you leave it alone.

Glue an O-ring to your back cover. This keeps dirt out and oil in.

After taking the back part of the motor off yours will look something like this. Obtain a syringe with a needle and fill it with your favorite bearing oil.
It is easiest to maintain the stock rubber sealed bearings, just slide the needle under the seal at this location. Yes you must take apart the motor and do this from the inside because it is cleaner in there.

Do the same for the front bearing.

I put a GMK "Carb-O" in the recessed portion of the back plate, not sure if it helps.

Don't forget to apply threadlocker to the screws.
