Transmissions

2-3 speed transmissions are generally all self contained and will require little maintenance when running stock equipment. Then comes the day when you upgrade or simply start to wonder what else can I do to make my truck run better?

We are putting silicone on the shaft to take up the tiny wiggle room between the shaft and the gear.
The red stuff is permanent loctite used to hold the screw into the plastic as a double precaution. (wipe away any excess silicone)

When you are ready to put the transmission back together: Clean all the surfaces where the inner bearing races touch and apply a very small amount of Green Loctite to glue the bearings to the shaft.

Apply your favorite grease (or oil) to the one-way bearing. DO NOT  use green loctite here.

 Green Loctite these bearings too.

I have been greasing the outside of bearings as an experiment. I will tell you how it goes.

Adjusting the slipper:

1. Start so you can hear it slip while going full throttle
2. Run full throttle on asphalt and adjust until you don't hear it slip
3. Hold the car in place and punch it for a second, it should slip

Analysis:

If it slips when you hold it down but not when you punch it on the asphalt, then you have it adjusted pretty well. It will give when landing a jump, but not slip until it melts the spur gear.
